Milk, Honey & Roses | Offerings to the Great Mother

Written by Rachel Rossitto

From Her We Came, and to Her We Return

When speaking of the Mother, one can only bow their head in reverence. She creates, nurtures, protects, supports, guides and loves us unconditionally. The Mother is duality: soft and sweet, firm and fierce.

Love is range, and love is powerful. Love requires the fullest surrender.

This is nature.

A woman fulfills nature when she fulfills motherhood.  When a woman is giving birth, she turns herself inside out to bring life forward.

To love is to offer your heart to the mystery.

To love is to give everything you have with no guarantee for anything in return.

Love is a risk, and still, Mother’s give it all.

Each one of us passes through a woman, a journey towards our first breath,  our first drink of milk,  our first touch and gaze…

all in the warmth of the Mother.

From the Void We Came, and to the Void We Return

The Mother contains the beauty of darkness within her warm, fertile womb. She houses the infinite potential of creation.

This is her gift and her magic.

These are the stars in the sky.

A Shrine to Love

“There is magic inside of you. A fire within, it burns. A fire alive, it grows.

Mary shrines in caves, A long love, timeless  A bleeding heart.

Love is stronger. Invite me in…

To dance in your darkest place.”

The Mother can show up in our lives in many forms: the woman who birthed us, the women who nurture us, and the beautiful earth that provides home and endless bounty.

We cannot help but feel deep gratitude for such strength and love.

Perhaps we have been wounded by the Mother — either abandoned and neglected, or suffocated and smothered. So many of us have experienced a disconnect, a severing from the deepest relationship we know.

We are collectively healing our wounds and restoring our trust and devotion to the Big Love.

How do we heal our relationship with the Mother?

How do we change our perspective of what mother is?

Offerings to the Great Mother | The Ritual

MILK

The first offering is Milk: the sweet, nutritious fluid that provides new life with sustenance to grow.

Take a warm cup of milk (of your choice) and place it in a vessel.

Place your hands over the milk and say aloud, or to yourself:

With this milk, I honor my biological Mother, the Earth as Mother and the Mother within. Thank you for giving me life. Thank you for providing my body with nourishment and vitality.

HONEY

The second offering is Honey: the medicinal elixir of life that invites our inner nectar to drip.

Take a tablespoon of honey and place your hand over it, and say aloud, or to yourself:

With this honey, I offer you the depth of my gratitude. Please bless me with your sweet intelligence. Show me where, and to whom I can offer forgiveness? How may I soften, and be more patient and compassionate to those in my life? How may I be the sweet medicine this world needs?

Add the honey to the warm milk and stir slowly, infusing it with your love.

ROSES

The third offering is Roses: she reminds us of our most sacred inner realms and the discernment we must have to create a sanctuary within our hearts.

Take a pinch or two of ground rose petals and hold them in your hand. You may also hold a rose if you don’t have rose powder in your cupboard. Say aloud, or to yourself:

Oh beautiful rose. Ancient teacher of love. Thank you for your grace and beauty. Thank you for your delicate petals, intoxicating scent, as well as the sharpness of your thorns and the strength of your roots. You teach me how to hold the Sacred. And how to be the Sacred. Please, show me how to tend my inner garden. Show me how to have healthy boundaries so I may create a safe sanctuary in my heart for my soul to rest. Thank you, I love you.

Sprinkle the rose powder on top of your warm milk with honey. If you are working with a whole rose, you can dip the rose into the milk and honey and bless your cheeks, third eye and lips with it. When you are complete, drink your magic elixir, and or share it with someone you love.

To feel connected to the Mother is to feel in union with our creator. To feel strong is to feel safe and protected, and deeply loved.

I wish this for all.

Thank you to all Mothers who are doing their very best to love their children well.
