Scorpio Energy Update

2023 | Scorpio season update by Desdemona M.

Into the depths we now journey as the Sun slips into the realm of Scorpio. The time when the mysteries of life and the uncovering of our hidden treasures within, come to the forefront of our psyche. Tempting us further into the deepest parts of self with a whisper and a longing for the sacred.

Lady Justice Libra taught us how to come together again. Where balance and beauty are important, and how our integral relationships help us to understand who we are. Human relating is the language of Libra, but in the season of Scorpio, we speak in spells and begin to question ourselves on a more existential level. Guiding us into the temple darkness, Scorpio translates the ancient. Inviting and provoking that which is primal, raw, and best for our highest potential.

The transition from cardinal air to the icy fixed water of Scorpio is reflective of the seasonal shift into the colder months. Preparing us to go inward and reflect as the nights grow longer. Scorpio is the 8th sign of the zodiac, and in Traditional Astrology is ruled by Mars, the planet of drive and action. Yet Pluto’s discovery, associated with the Greek God of the underworld, Hades --  gave way to understanding the sign’s signature depth even more. Now said to be co-ruled by both planets, it’s no wonder this energy is known for its intensity.

The energy emanating from Pluto is that of “The Greater Annihilator/Renewer.” The destroyer and the creator. In Astrology, Pluto and the 8th house rule the areas of life that most are afraid to look at. Birth, death, sex, emotional bonds, the subconscious, and so on. Pluto transforms traumas, adversity, and powerlessness into superpowers. Holding the wisdom that the places we fear are often the most fruitful. This is what Scorpio is here to teach us. This energy is imaginative, passionate, as well as strongly emotional and intuitive. Aiming toward higher consciousness and collective renewal. Making this a potent time for all kinds of delving, focus, regeneration, integration, magic, and of course -- all things cloaked in the veil of mystery and intrigue. We become like the Scorpio, a cartographer of the subconscious realms. Exploring, investigating, and even relishing in our own inner landscapes.

Uniquely, this sign has many representations. The most well-known are the scorpion, the serpent, and the phoenix/eagle. Within each lies another dimension to the cycles of Scorpio. Akin to the scorpion creature, this energy is often powerful and sometimes feared -- yet in other understandings, revered. For instance, in ancient Egypt, the scorpion Goddess Selket was seen and worshiped as a loving protectress of the souls passed on. Archetypes of the scorpion ready to sting, or the snake coiled to strike tells of the sacred venom held, and therefore the immunity to it. As well as the readiness of spirit, resourcefulness, and immense willpower this sign, and time possesses. Like the serpent, Scorpio energy undulates through us. Regenerating, transforming, and always shedding what is no longer needed. Lastly, the phoenix rising from the ashes, or the eagle flying high demonstrates the potential gifts Pluto bestows when we do endure the dark nights of the soul. The liberation, reclamation, and authentic embodiment of our true essence. Strengths we are all invited to call upon during these times as we remember the divinity within our desires and lifeforce.

Despite the sign’s tendency to be overlooked in fear, projection, and even rejection -- we see the truest and even tender parts of Scorpio within these notions. For it is often the untrue, unjust, or unconscious that tend to react in this way to the energy Pluto evokes within themselves, others, and the 8th house themes of life. Scorpio challenges us to face ourselves and our fears. To shatter the illusions, fallacies, and pitfalls of living inauthentically and therefore, in resistance to the deepest desires of soul: evolution. Hence why this regenerative power also becomes a force of protection, keeping ill-will and circumstance at bay. It must also be said that there is an integral, devoted kindness, generosity, and even precious aspect to Scorpio people and this season. We can’t forget that underneath the many perceptions of this powerful sign, there lies unfathomable love, depth, and understanding of the human experience.

Planets in Motion

Coming out of the haze of many inner planets being retrograde over the past few months, we can finally take a deep breath again. Especially with Pluto, Scorpio’s ruler going direct back on October 11th, helping to facilitate the transformation of this season. Despite the outer planets Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune in retrograde until the end of the year and on to 2024, – there is a new sense of direction and ability re-enlivened. On October 22nd, just before the Sun enters Scorpio on the 23rd, Mercury will take a dive into the watery chasms of the sign as well. Giving us more distinct, intuitive, and even investigative communication and connective focus. With Mercury in Scorpio until November 9th, we could also see important conversations emerge surrounding intimacy, money, and trust.

All this Plutonic energy is magnified under the powerful Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio’s polar sign of Taurus on October 28th. When we may experience the biggest shifts and themes centered around purging, renewal, and what we want to create going forward into the new year. This eclipse may show where our old patterns, behaviors, and even obsessions and resistance come up that hinders our growth. Underlying pains, energies, and perhaps attachments that are ready to be identified and transmuted come to light. Although this isn’t always easy, it can be some of the most rewarding work we do all year. Recentering and grounding us in honest self-awareness, dignity, and the love to continue walking our path.

November 4th, Saturn stations direct in the sign of Pisces. Being retrograde since June 17th, we will now be able to use our renewed vision for the foundations of our life. Areas of Saturn that we were required to slow down and get present with, such as matters of time, karma, responsibility, discipline, and spirituality.  Fortifying feelings that we can better utilize our abilities for what we are striving to manifest, and the responsibility we take for our own lives in order to thrive. Venus enters amorous Libra on the 8th of November, and we find ourselves feeling more balanced, cooperative, and harmonious when it comes to matters of the heart. Venus is at home in the sign of love, and we are reminded of the interplay and reciprocity that brings steadiness within connections. Fairness, beauty, and easefulness can help to keep our hearts warm as we prepare for the winter ahead.

Mid November, we have a New Moon in Scorpio on the 13th. Lulling us further still into the territory of our emotional sensitivities and passions. Perhaps inciting new cycles or themes in areas of power, sharing, resources, and self-mastery. This is a beautiful opportunity to carve out how we want to be reborn. To surrender the energetic burdens and decay that create the rich soil for new growth. Part of the process of Scorpio is to be the herald of change through these continuous cycles of life and death that we all experience in our lives. When we can tap into the awareness of our internal rhythms, emotions, and vulnerability – we can always find our safe harbor and calm within the storm. This is one of the major messages from the subterranean subconscious of Scorpio season.

…::.:..::.:..:::..:…

Take some time to surrender to the quiet. To honor and hold space for self and others. To feel what can only be felt in the bones and not expressed through words. To breathe deep and allow. Knowing that often, the way out is through. Contemplate the forces that push and pull us to transform and transmute. Ask what maintaining a healthy awareness and relationship with the inner shadow self looks like. How do we remain true to our deepest knowing, passion, and drive to advance in this life? Scorpio knows the fate we will all meet, and therefore operates as a soul who remembers and feels the great pull of purpose within everyday pursuit. We move through this season with reverence and gratitude for another day to be. Scorpio is here to elevate and remind us that our very beingness is the bliss we seek.

May you always feel held. May you always walk in love.
