Sacred Waters | New Moon Ceremony

Honoring the New Moon in Cancer | July 2023

by Rachel Rossitto and Baelyn Elspeth

The New Moon is a powerful time to slow down, go within and listen.

We begin a new cycle.

The New Moon happens when the Sun and Moon meet at the same point in the sky. It’s a fertile time to press the seeds of dreams into the dark soil, and watch them grow as the moon becomes full. The New Moon invites rebirth and renewal - a vital part of living holistically. It also invites us to reflect on the previous cycle and set clear intentions for the month to come. This supports us in aligning with the deepest visions we have for our lives.

This month the New Moon is in the sign of Cancer, which invites us to pay attention to and lovingly tend the realms of our inner emotional landscape. It can bring up themes around home, safety, nourishment, family and self-care.

What do I need to feel safe, nurtured and cared for?

What daily practices invite more nourishment in my life?

Am I allowing myself to feel the depth of my feelings?

What messages do they have for me?

Cancer teaches us about the power of our sensitivity.

So often we build up armor to protect ourselves from feeling vulnerable. We often believe that sensitivity equals weakness. However, the more we embrace and honor the incredible gift of being sensitive, we realize it has the capacity to become our greatest strength. We then have an opportunity to transform our sensitivity from being a liability, to becoming an ally,  anchoring and teaching us to skillfully navigate the world and intimately connect with our Truth. If we learn how to harness this gift, it can be an expression of high intelligence, resourcefulness and immense creativity.

Cancer is ruled by the moon, so the moon is empowered when it rests in Cancer. Cancer is also the first water sign of the Zodiac, bringing holy water to these hot summer days.

We will guide you through a practice of enhancing your sensitivity and intuition.

Mantras for the New Moon in Cancer

"I take time to tend to my heart and home."

"I hold space for the emotions that want to move through me."

"I take time to tend the garden of my inner being."
