Spring Delight || Lilac Popsicles

Lilac flowers emit a fragrance so effortlessly and fully, and yet, we cannot capture the scent in an oil to be savored all year-there is no true lilac essential oil. They are very simply here for a brief window, but they bring with them a story that reaches the far corners of our memory and imagination.

This year we have had the welcome blessing of a long and rainy Spring, which has in turn, brought an abundance of lilacs bursting forth in all varieties of violet hues, punctuated with soft white blossoms and the occasional deep indigo. In thinking about the ephemeral design of this Beauty and how it wanted to be taken as a food, expressing its essential fleeting nature; fully.

I recalled being a child, sitting on an old wooden bridge over a stream eating purple popsicles, rivers of color pouring down my hands, and I knew what the marriage was to be…. The child in us all, savoring every moment of a treat that inevitably leaves faster than we can take it all in….
